Tree Service in Katy, TX

Katy is home. Houston Arbor Care has been based here since 1989, which means we have watched the subdivisions go in, watched the trees planted with them grow up, and watched a lot of those trees run into the same problems at the same time.

Why Katy Trees Behave the Way They Do

Katy was rice and cattle country before it was neighborhoods. That matters more than it sounds. Most of what grows here now was planted, not left standing, so instead of a mixed-age natural woodland you get streets where every live oak went in the same season and is now hitting middle age together.

The soil underneath is heavy Gulf Coast clay. It swells when it rains and shrinks and cracks in drought, which is hard on root systems and is why so many Katy trees show drought stress faster than you would expect for their size. Clay also drains poorly, so a tree in a low spot can be waterlogged and drought stressed in the same year.

A Predictable Problem in the Older Subdivisions

The 1990s and early 2000s neighborhoods, Cinco Ranch among them, have a specific issue. Live oaks were planted close to sidewalks, driveways, and foundations back when they were saplings. Thirty years on, those root systems are lifting concrete and running into slabs, and the trees are large enough that the fix is no longer simple. We deal with this constantly.

Flooding and Tree Health

Properties near the Addicks and Barker reservoir flood pools have a tree problem most of the region does not. Prolonged inundation drowns root systems, and the damage is not visible right away. A tree that sat in standing water for days often looks fine for a season or two, then declines with no obvious cause.

If your property took water in a major flood event and a mature tree has been thinning since, that history is probably the explanation, and it is worth an assessment before the tree fails.

What We Do in Katy

Tree removal, trimming and pruning, emergency storm response, planting, preservation and cabling, arborist assessments, and fertilization.

Being based here means short drive times. When a limb comes down in Katy, we are not coming across the city to look at it.

Tree Trimming and Pruning in Katy

Most trimming calls in Katy are for live oaks that have outgrown the lot: limbs over the roofline, canopy shading out the yard, branches into the neighbor's. Clearance and structural work solves that. Topping does not, and we will not do it.

Emergency Tree Removal in Katy

The trees that go over first in a Katy windstorm are usually the ones that sat in Addicks or Barker floodwater a year or two earlier. Root systems that drowned do not hold in saturated clay. If a mature tree near your house has a flood history, get it assessed before hurricane season, not after.

Tree Removal in Katy

When a live oak from the original planting is into a slab or lifting a driveway, removal is one option, not the only one. Connor assesses first. Most Katy neighborhoods are HOA governed, and many need approval before a mature tree comes down; we will flag that before we quote.
